Al Gore – The Vice President’s Environmental & Tech Consulting Work

Last Updated on April 21, 2018

Many people are familiar with Al Gore as a politician. After serving in office from 1993 to 2001, he has done many other things. In addition to his 2000 presidential run, he also served as a consultant for many tech companies.

He went on to gain fame as a proponent of climate protection in 2006 with the documentary An Inconvenient Truth. Environmentalism has long been Al Gore’s interest, and he continues to work toward its end as the founder of the Climate Reality Project.

Probably none of this is surprising to most readers. What will surprise many is Gore’s ties to the tech industry.

Al Gore has owned nearly half a million shares of Apple stock. In early 2017, he bought 70,000 shares through options as a director. That’s right, Al Gore was a director at Apple, appointed to the board in 2003. After getting these shares, he sold over 200,000 shares for nearly $40 million.

Al Gore is also a partner in a venture capital firm called Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. He is head of the climate change solutions group with this company.

He was even a senior advisor to Google. He received an estimate of $40 million in stock options from them.

Next time you see Al Gore on South Park, imploring the people to hunt down Manbearpig, remember the real-life (and less silly) things he has done.

Excelsior!
